This is a variety of basil that has a sweet lemon flavor and aroma. The aroma is distinctly lemon, while the taste is mostly lemon with a hint of basil.
Lemon basil's surprising flavor lends itself to drinks and cocktails. Steep the leaves in hot water, add sugar and pour over ice for a basil lemonade. Muddle it in cocktails and add as a garnish. It can also be used in dished where lemon is called for, but keep in mind that lemon basil's flavor and appearance are damaged by heating, so add toward the end of cooking.
